Sadly, our beloved brother and friend Todd Brown died March 22, 2013, succumbing to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash 40 days earlier. DrummingForTheNations.com was Todd’s personal blog, and it remains today as a tribute to his life and work.
Please explore the contents of this site and comment freely, for in these pages Todd left many memories.
Below is Todd’s original message for the “about” page:
Todd Brown serves with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and has a personal vision to connect Jesus Christ with the Jamaican youth through music and drumming, to disciple followers to impact their local communities, and to encourage a “sending” vision through YWAM’s Discipleship Training School (DTS) in preparation for reaching out to other Caribbean Islands and to Africa. Todd served in Jamaica from 2004 thru 2008 and returned in 2010. Todd is discipling boys to become men of God and nation changers.
His mission is particularly challenging in a nation wrought with poverty, lack of education, over 20% unemployment, a 93% illegitimacy rate, crime, corruption, drug cartels, violence, and is ranked 4th in the world for murders per capita. With a 93% illegitimacy rate, the youth are particularly vulnerable, and Todd’s heart is in ministering to them.
My mother always said I should write a book of all my adventures in life…how I hitchhiked all over the country, hopped freight trains, and traveled with nothing but a ’69 Montego and a side-kick I wanted to kick in the side! (He was always getting into some sort of trouble…God rest his soul.)
I was born in San Jose, California, May 16th, 1957. As a baby, I had spinal meningitis as well as the chicken pox! It was touch and go, and truthfully I don’t remember much, but my grandmother prayed and gave me to God…and I made it!
I grew up kinda normal. A few years after moving into our new house, I was going to be 10! The next thing I knew, my mother and father began reading some stuff by Herbert W. Armstrong, from the Radio Church of God, and became followers. They claimed we were the “true church,” and that one day we would flee to Petra somewhere in the Middle East.
At the age of 17, I couldn’t take it any longer and began my wandering days. (Of course, I still wander but with more of a plan 🙂 ). After my first real girlfriend and I finally broke up for the last time, I met a girl I thought I wanted to marry. Boy, did I learn a lot about relationships very quick…you can’t fix everything, not at 23 or 63.
Like I said…a book will be coming one day because there were tons of adventure and misadventure. Yet, after all the partying and running around, the Lord reached down to me in 1994…and in Redwood Estates, California, I found God.
Now, I serve God in Missions through music and discipleship in Jamaica and wherever my feet are at the time. I am about to head back to YWAM Jamaica for at least two years of service where I served from 2004 and 2006 before serving with Family Church On The Rock (FCOTR)-Montego Bay for two years.
Until June 2010, I am stateside living in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California, and serving at Mountain Bible Church, San Jose Community Church, and YWAM-San Francisco.
Music is my passion, and of course, I give the Lord all the glory !!
